Self-Solemnizing Elopement Near Boulder, Colorado

One of my favorite mountain ranges in Colorado lies in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. So I was obviously very excited when Taylor and Eddie reached out to me to capture their self-solemnizing elopement out here in Colorado.

In fall hiking elopements, we are faced with challenging climates. We anxiously kept an eye on the weather for the days leading up to their elopement. Thunderstorms and high winds were rolling through the mountains of Colorado the day before but we were fortunate to find a break on their actual elopement day! This was such a relief as I picked them up at 5am before heading up to the mountains for their big day!

We hit the trail head and started up as we crossed over waterfalls and took in the big views of the jagged peaks before arriving at a spot on the Continental Divide. There was no one else on the trail the entire hike up! This is one of the benefits of starting at sunrise. You avoid the typical crowds of the midday people and get the best lighting for beautiful elopement photos!

Traditionally, couples do a first dance after their elopement ceremony but Taylor and Eddie decided they could not wait and jumped right in! Who could blame them with these beautiful views? It was such a fun start to their elopement!

After their first dance, they found the perfect rock for their vow exchange and self-solemnizing vows. The shared their vows and exchange rings in front of their “witness” Harley. I feel every couples elopement packing list should include: wedding rings, vows and their dogs!

We then started to head back down the Divide and found a spot for them to share big mountain views as the sun hit the valley behind. It was an incredible light show as the sun fought through the moody clouds. It really made for some dramatic photos!

Is there a better place to have a self-solemnizing elopement than Colorado? It’s hard to think a place with better views than this beautiful state.
